What You Can Expect:
Day 1: San Jose Arrive at the San Jose Airport and take the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cariari shuttle to the hotel, where you will stay the night. You are free to explore on your own for the rest of the day.
Day 2: San Jose – La Fortuna (B, L)Meet your group for breakfast at 6:30 a.m., and then depart San Jose for Poas Volcano National Park (entrance fee included). Then, continue to the popular La Paz Waterfall Gardens and tour the beautiful falls, a butterfly garden, and a wildcat sanctuary, before heading to Cosa Rica’s Northern Plains. Check in at the top-rated Mountain Paradise Hotel, where you can access a swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa, and restaurants.
Day 3: La Fortuna (B, L)Choose to go on a hike in Arenal Volcano National Park or go white water rafting through the rainforest, rejoining your group at the Paradise Park hot springs at the end of your chosen adventure. Free time for the rest of the day.
Day 4: La Fortuna – Gold Coast (B)Drive from the mountains back down to the beach for your first of two days of swimming and relaxing on Costa Rica’s Gold Coast. Stay at either Villas Playa Samara Resort or Carrillo Beach Nammbú Ocean View Resort, both top-rated beachfront resorts right on the Pacific Ocean.
Day 5: Gold Coast (B)Lounge at the pool or relax on the beach, which boasts calm waters and a view of Isla Chora. Activities available for purchase likely to include surf lessons, dolphin-watching tours, snorkeling, and ocean kayaking.
Day 6: Gold Coast – Monteverde (B)Return to the mountains to visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest, considered one of the most important cloud forests in the world for its abundant diversity. Traverse the cloud forest canopy on board a series of hanging bridges, take a tram through the trees, and walk on a nature path through the forest. Spend the remainder of the day exploring the village of Monteverde, a quiet mountain town with Quaker roots, or enjoying the restaurants, swimming pools, soccer field, tennis court, and spa at your hotel.
Day 7: Monteverde – Hermosa Beach (B)Head back toward the coast, stopping at the Tarcoles River Bridge to spot wild crocodiles, before arriving at Manuel Antonio National Park. Take a guided hike of the park, known for its rich biodiversity and untouched beaches. Then, check-in at the Tramonto Hotel or equivalent beachfront accommodation at Playa Hermosa. Spend the evening at leisure.
Day 8: Hermosa Beach – San Jose (B)
After breakfast, leave the hotel at 7 a.m. for the San Jose International Airport.
